Bermuda

First I want to acknowledge the fact that I am mourning the loss of many intelligent and loved Polish people after the recent plane crash.  I am thinking of my friend Ellen who is currently living and working in Warsaw.  If you have a few minutes and are willing to risk some tears, please read this moving post.

I just had the best weekend getaway. To some place I had never particularly dreamed about going. To some place I will forever recommend. To some place I will go back (with Pat the next time). I am so excited to share some photos - I took well over 100 so it will be hard to narrow it down, but I'll try my best.  Sorry to disappoint some friends, however I am leaving most of the late night photos out because the day time pictures are just so pretty!

Sadly, my friend Sarah wasn't able to utilize her booked flight because she got held up with work.  Andrea, Josh, Laurisa and I thought of her often and missed her!

THE BEST husband ever dropped me off at Newark airport early Friday morning on his way to work and just mere hours later Laurisa and I were greeted by the airport shuttle in Bermuda.  The nonstop flight took less than two hours actually.  And the flight was cheaper than a flight to Nashville.  Why have I never considered going to Bermuda before?  Andrea met up with us at the hotel later that afternoon and then Josh finished up his business (the reason we all ended up in Bermuda) later that evening.

Laurisa and I spent Friday afternoon lounging by the amazing pool and enjoying the view.  And having a few drinks.  We decided to start things off with a frozen margarita. :o)  Over the weekend we also had some delicious mojitos, ciders, and famous Bermudian drinks - Dark and Stormy (ok, but not my taste) and Rum Swizzles (just my style).

Josh selected our awesome hotel, the Newstead.  It opened up just a couple years before so everything felt so new and modern.  The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.  The hotel is right on the water and looks out across to Hamilton.  There are ferries or taxis to take you into Hamilton and both Friday and Saturday night we took the short taxi ride to go out and about in the little city for dinner and drinks.

A quick 3 day, 2 night trip felt like quite a nice long vacation.  Get ready to see the beauty of this place.
We spent a fair amount of time in the pool and a long time in the huge hot tub.
It felt like I was back at AOII and getting ready with my sorority sisters.  Both Andrea and Laurisa were roommates of mine back in Bloomington at our sorority.  They both helped me out with hair and makeup - so fun.
Rum Swizzle:
The concierge drove us to the nearby Elbow Beach on Saturday.
Thinking of my hubby at home:
We majorly lucked out with weather over the weekend, but things started to cool off Saturday afternoon at the beach, so we opted to walk back after a few hours.  We walked part of the way on their very narrow roads (no sidewalks) and avoided scooters and cars.  Once we got to this walkway I was thrilled.  It felt like we were walking through a secret garden.
My parents have got to take a trip here.  Look at all the flowers, Mom and Dad.
After we hit up the hotel bar, we headed out for dinner on Saturday night.  Our taxi driver gave us some suggestions and made us a reservation during the drive at a great Italian restaurant.  He even escorted us inside.  Everyone was just so nice to us!

One last look down at that gorgeous water (and yes, we did swim in the ocean!) from the plane ride home on Sunday.  Several airlines operate nonstop flights from Atlanta, Newark, and New York, so I say give this trip a go!
I love Bermuda!
